THE RIGHTEOUS DEATH BURN

Boys & girls, if you weren't aware, there are several great movies that are coming out & I am EXCITED to see them! They are:

DEATH RACE
Directed by: Paul W.S. Anderson

Starring:
Jason Statham (one of my favs)
Joan Allen (she's really good. From the Bourne series)
Tyrese (who gets better & better every movie)
Jacob Vargas ("no more locked doors!") hehe

Here's a synopsis courtesy of Douglas Young from IMDB:

In 2012, the United States economy collapses and life for everyone is not the same. Once a NASCAR champion, Jensen Ames, (Jason Statham), hits rock bottom and spent several years in prison. His life was improving and changing for the better after meeting and marrying Suzy (Janaya Stephens) and having a baby girl. Then the steel mill closes, and he loses his job. But that was not the worst thing to happen to Jenson that day. Suzy is brutally murdered, and he is framed for her murder.

Jenson is sent to Terminal Island, the worst and toughest for-profit prison in the country run by Warden Hennessey (Joan Allen). She has created the country's most popular pay-per-view sport, a kill-or-be-killed car race where the inmates race to win their freedom from prison after 5 wins. Every inmate driver is driving a monster car that they built which is loaded with machine guns, missiles, flamethrowers, napalm, and no rules.

Warden Hennessey convinces Jensen to secretly take the place of the late 4-time superstar winner, Frankenstein, and wear his metallic mask in the race. If Jensen wins just one race, he can go home to his baby daughter. To get to the finish line, Jensen must kill his competition before they kill him.

Why do I want to see it? Because Jason Statham is in it. lol. And the fact that I love action movies, the rest of the cast is great & it's a hot & unique concept.

RIGHTEOUS KILL
Directed by: Jon Avnet

Starring:
Robert Deniro (One of my favorites!)
Al Pacino (Other favorite!)
John Leguizamo (Uhh, favorite!)
50 Cent(he's a pretty good actor. I actually miss seeing him on screen)

Synopsis from IMDB:

After 30 years as partners in the pressure cooker environment of the NYPD, highly decorated Detectives David Fisk and Thomas Cowan should be ready for retirement, but aren't. Before they can hang up their badges, they are called in to investigate the murder of a notorious pimp, which appears to have ties to a case they solved years before.Like the original murder, the victim is a suspected criminal whose body is found accompanied by a four line poem justifying the killing.

When additional crimes take place, it becomes clear the detectives are looking for a serial killer, one who targets criminals that have fallen through the cracks of the judicial system. His mission is to do what the cops can't do on their own: take the culprits off the streets for good. The similarities between the recent killings and their earlier case raise a nagging question: Did they put the wrong man behind bars?

Why do I want to see it? Ummmmmm, did you look at the cast? I don't even care if they just sit there & stare at each other the whole movie. I'd watch all 3 hours of it... Besides, I love crime dramas. Love love love them.

BURN AFTER READING
Directed by: Joel & Ethan Coen

Starring:
George Clooney (favorite)
Brad Pitt (favorite)
John Malkovich (the truth)

Synopsis from Fandango:
A CIA agent who is currently in the process of writing a book loses the disc containing his only manuscript in this comedic tale of espionage.

Why do I want to see it? Refer to cast above. Also refer to the same explanation as "Righteous Kill." And by the way, have you SEEN any of the Ocean's? Clooney & Pitt work really well together. Duhhhh.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
* Some notable mentions: These are the movies that I really wanted to see but haven't had a chance to. I might catch them while they're still in theaters or definitely catch them on DVD.
~ The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
~ Pineapple Express
~ Bangkok Dangerous: This is coming out soon but I'm debating if I'm gonna go see it. The trailer makes it look like it'll be a good movie but I'm a little hesitant about it. One because the title is sooooo corny, two because Nicolas Cage still has a bad haircut & three because I hope it's not another one of those action movies that he isn't "fit for the part." He needs to consider another genre of film. Who knows, maybe I'll give it a shot...
Join me at the theater my fellow movie lovers! Whewwww!!! :-D
TROPIC THUNDER
We saw Tropic Thunder on Saturday. Well, that actually was my second time cuz I saw it with Storie last weekend. Believe it or not it was actually even funnier the second time I watched it. I'm laughing right at this moment thinking about it. lol!
If you haven't seen the trailer the movie is about a group of actors filming a "based on a true story" war movie. The director decides to put them in Vietnam in a real war zone to capture real footage & action (without the actors' knowledge of course.) So here they are in the middle of the jungle thinking they're filming a movie but are in fact in real danger & could lose their lives.
The cast explodes with funny greats including Ben Stiller, Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr., and two new guys (well, to me anyway) Jay Baruchel & Brandon T. Jackson. Needless to say they were all showing out & acting a damn fool! lol! Ben Stiller got swole for the movie, Jack Black got... well, his self, for the movie & Robert Downey got black for the movie. He looks, talks & acts just like one. haha. With a forced "brotha" voice of course. I don't think I know many black people that actually talks in a deep forceful voice every day. Jay Baruchel played a scary nerdy smart kid which fits him & Brandon Jackson played a hip hop entrepreneur & he also did a good job.
Matthew McConaughey was Ben Stiller's faithful agent & Tom Cruise was a rich entertainment mogul in a fat suit & they were both hilarious! Cruise really showed his funny side so hopefully people will cut him some slack on the whole "he's anal & controlling" thing.
Filled with bombs, helicopters, blood, guns, sexual & racist jokes, profanity, dancing & lord knows everything else, Tropic Thunder was a unique & funny hit. I heard alot of mixed reviews for it but hey, you can't please everyone. People have different types of humor so if you're not into Ben Stiller, Jack Black & Will Ferrell kinda humor then you probably wouldn't enjoy it. Needless to say I love those guys so it was exactly my kind of movie.
"I don't read the script. The script reads me."
"Tugg: I killed one, Rick... the thing I love most in the world.
Rick: A hooker. Oh Jesus, you killed a hooker!"
"Tugg: This is insane. Are you telling me you're quitting the movie? We're supposed to be a unit!
Kirk: Suck my unit."
"Kirk: I don't break character until the DVD commentary."
GRANDMA GLOCK
Tue Aug 19, 11:25 PM ET
POINT MARION, Pa. - An 85-year-old woman boldly went for her gun and busted a would-be burglar inside her home, then forced him to call police while she kept him in her sights, police said. "I just walked right on past him to the bedroom and got my gun," Leda Smith said.
Smith heard someone break into her home Sunday afternoon and grabbed the .22-caliber revolver she had been keeping by her bed since a neighbor's home was burglarized a few weeks ago.
"I said 'What are you doing in my house?' He just kept saying he didn't do it," Smith said.
After the 17-year-old boy called 911, Smith kept holding the gun on him until state police arrived at her home in Springhill Township, about 45 miles south of Pittsburgh.
The boy will be charged with attempted burglary and related offenses in juvenile court, Trooper Christian Lieberum said. He was not identified because of his age.
"It was exciting," Smith said. "I just hope I broke up the (burglary) ring because they have been hitting a lot of places around here."
~~
Whoo! Go Grandma!!! Now THAT is some news! lol! She's so nice. If someone were to break in my house they'd get more than a call to the cops I tell you that much. Don't you get 3 "warning" shots? ...
AUGUST 13, 2008
I'm not a superstitious person. I don't believe that I'd get bad luck if I see a black cat, walk under a ladder, or open an umbrella in a building. I dunno what's the deal is with America's Friday the 13th thing but... anyhow, in my culture 13 is an unlucky number. And I just happened to graduate #13 in my high school class. Out of 3 or 400 students I graduated #13. Pretty smart eh? :-D.
My mom is more superstitious than I am. Her & Actor went to my graduation ceremony & the whole time she was saying "Hanh got #13, bad. Bad." lol. Of course she was proud but she'd rather me get #12 or 14 than 13. Go figure. She doesn't speak as much English so it's funny to see her & Actor communicate. I'm getting off track...but anyways, what I'm trying to convey is that nothing bad or weird has ever happened to me on Friday the 13th or any day the 13th. Until yesterday.
The night before I had to fast & not eat after midnight because I had to go get my blood drawn for an annual check up or whatever. Mind you I hate needles & haven't gotten my blood drawn since I was 7 when I first came to America. They had to take a sample of everyone's blood to make sure we weren't infected or to just have a copy of our blood in case they ever needed it I guess. Who knows. But now that I think about it I'm not even sure if they even took my blood cuz I was too young. Who knows on that either. My memory fails me sometimes; bare with me.
The point is: I've never gotten my blood drawn ever or even if it was once I can't recall the physical pain of it therefore it doesn't count. Oh yea, by the way, did I mention that I hate needles? And blood? Bad combination. I can watch movies all day & watch people get shot & stabbed but I can't deal with "sick" blood. I know, I'm a tough punk. I could never do drugs, well, the injectible ones anyway, or be in the medical field. Yours truly would just stand & stare at a bleeding person in dire need of help like... um... *stares until someone else takes over*
I've avoided having my blood drawn for 22 years now. I've never been in the emergency room or broken anything on my body or anything remotely close to a bad injury so I guess it never came up. But since I'm older & have to get an annual "female" exam yearly my Ob-gyn made me get some blood tests done. Boo.
So not only am I getting stabbed in the arm & getting blood drawn but I have to fast before? You're killing me! I am the queen of late night eating! I can do without breakfast if need be but I can barely, barely make it till 11:30 or 12pm at work without eating lunch. I'm always hungry! But guess what? The doctor doesn't take appointments until 1:30pm that day. So I had to not eat from midnight till after my appointment. I was miserable. Midnight to 1:30pm sounds easy but we're on a crazy/ not so healthy eating schedule (cooking lasagna at 2 in the morning, cookies at 4am kinda schedule) so it isn't quite easy for your truly ok?!
I did well though. We grilled & ate dinner by 11pm & I was cool all night. Went to work at 7am & I couldn't even drink coffee can you believe it? ughh! I don't drink coffee much anymore but I wanted some probably just because I couldn't. By 9am my stomach started growling so I drank water to hydrate & hopefully fill but that didn't work too well. Water makes me even hungrier and it gives me a nasty mediciny taste if I drink too much on an empty stomach.
I think most of it was really just me being freaking nervous & scared to death about getting my blood drawn, but still, I made it all day without food or drinks. Actor accompanied me to the doctor's office cuz I told him I might pass out. lol. I know was being all extra dramatic but hey, I've never had my blood drawn before so I don't know how painful it could be or how my body might react to it so... leave me alone!
Got to the office & out of all days there was only 1 person in front of me. Usually I'd have to wait at least half an hour or so but they called me in almost immediately. AHHHH!!! I went to the room & got my weight & blood pressure taken & yada ya & then came the big shebang. They sent a lady that I've never seen before in my life in to take my blood. How comforting. She was professional & found my vein & took my blood with the 1st try. I was relieved because I heard they have to poke some people like 4 or 5 times. But yea, it only pinched a little when she stuck the needle in my arm but I couldn't feel any other pain after that. I looked away at 1st but then yours truly being the intrigued person that she is looked & watched as she drew 2 tubes of blood.
Whew!!! I'm glad that was over. I had made the scenario so bad in my head that when it actually happened it was nowhere close & I felt relieved. lol.
We left the hospital & went straight to get something to eat. We decided on American Deli & drove all the way over there & it was closed. As in no longer in business. Damn! We also passed by a spot that my co-workers eat at for lunch & that spot was closed too. The economy is really rough these days. We finally went to Quiznos' & I got a black angus steak sub. Yum yum! I was tempted to get a second one cuz I wasn't even full from the 1st but decided not to.
Oh yea, on the way we drove over a dildo. lol! Gross! It was just in the middle of the street all big & dirty. haha. I was like "Well damn, did it fall out of someone's car or did someone have sex in the middle of the street?" Who knows... It was funny though.
We got home & everything was peachy until I decided to lift up the band-aid & check out my war wound. So tell me why I have a big ass blood clot the size of a nickel with a stem connected to it? That is NOT normal! I rubbed alcohol on it & re-covered it with a fresh band-aid.
I showed my coworker today (she's an expert on medical stuff because she's always in & out of the hospital due to surgery) and she said that that means someone screwed up. That the stranger lady inserted too much of the needle & punctured my vein open & blood is leaking internally that's why from the outside it looks like a big ass blood clot. Great. Thanks stranger lady!
The clot hasn't spread so I'm assuming the hole is closed now so I should be fine & healed within a couple of days *sighs* So much for a not scary 1st time blood drawing experience. I have pictures of it by the way. Couldn't load it cuz my comp is acting like a dodo & won't register my phone pictures.
At the end of the day I still don't feel like 13 is a bad number. Even though I'm semi bleeding internally it was a person's fault, not superstition. I'm pretty hungry & sleepy right now so this blog & the whole "the number 13" anecdote might not even parallel or fit together but, hey! It happened on the 13th & I took the time to blog when I'm bleeding internally so read it with compassion & sympathy ok?! Geezzz. Say it together now "Hanh makes perfect sense & this blog is great." "Hanh makes perfect sense & this blog is great."
There. That wasn't so hard was it? Not nearly as hard as a piercing needle.
RANDOM THINGS & HAPS
~ R.I.P to Bernie Mac & Isaac Hayes. They'll be missed greatly. I don't know much about Hayes but I know that he was a legend. Can you believe I've never seen Shaft? Yea, so I never heard the song that he did for that movie... I do know of & love Bernie Mac though. It's weird because I was just watching the Bernie Mac show right before I heard that he passed. And I loved him in the Oceans series, "Guess Who?" & of course his stand up. I wish them & their family the best. I'm sure they are in a better place. As Don Cheadle said, "Heaven just got funnier."
~ Actor mentioned a good point: that English is a very difficult language to learn. It's so detailed & complexed, as I'm sure all other languages are, maybe. The same spelled words can mean numerous meanings, past tense is "had" for singular & "have" for plural. You have to put the right punctuation marks! in the right. places or when, people read it? they won;t understand what. you're trying to say,... See what I mean? I don't even know how I learned this language in the 1st place. Geesh.
~ Brando needs a bath. Badly. I don't know what kind of mischief he's getting into while we're not watching but he'll come up to me with his whole face covered with dirt & act like I don't see it. And he's been getting a whole bunch of cuts on his legs. I don't know if he's playing too hard or digging a hole somewhere that we don't see or what. Just need to clean him.
~ I haven't seen any of the Olympics since it began. Boo me. I love the Olympics.
~ We just saw the first 8 episodes of the 1st season of Scrubs. So funny! lol. I've seen bits & pieces before, but since we really sat down & watched it it's gotten higher on my "funny" list.
~ I need a vacation. Badly. We're still trying to figure out where to go next month for our Anniversary & Actor's birthday. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to tell how old he's gonna be. *cough* quarter of a century *cough*
~ I shall post a list on the sidebar of the blogs that are good reads. Most of them are either my friends or a fellow blogger that I stumbled across that's really good. Show them some love!
~ I can't wait till next year comes around so I can do my taxes. lol. Totally random but I did mine & Actor's taxes this year & it was fun. Don't judge me!
~ I got back in touch with one of my good friends from high school a week or so ago. I shall call her Story. We haven't seen each other since she graduated a year before I did. It's been over 4 years. She found me on Myspace & we've been catching up ever since. We met up at a bowling alley last weekend & did some more catching up. That's one of my favorite & few people from high school that I actually want to keep in touch & hang out with. She's the best :-) Me, her & our friend Sean used to sit in Physics class & do nothing but sing all period long. hahaha. We drove the teacher crazyyyy but he loved us. lol.
~ By the way, if you haven't heard about the Grayhound story from Canada then Google it. Very disturbing yet need to know news so people can be more cautious.
That is all for now. I'm hungry. We shall meet again soon. Toodles!
WOMAN vs. LION. WHO WINS?
"ACAPULCO, Mexico - A Mexican woman says she fought a 500-pound lion with a machete near the resort city of Acapulco and scared him away.
Celsa Aleman said she and her 7-year-old niece were riding a donkey Monday along a road when the lion went after the animal's legs.
The 35-year-old woman said she found the courage to fight the lion because she thought it would attack her niece. She said she hit the animal with a machete until the beast ran away and Aleman and her niece were unharmed.
The state government said in a statement that the lion had escaped from a private zoo owned by a former local congressman. It said the animal killed two dogs and ate a pig before it was sedated and taken back to the zoo."
~~~

Wow. She is the truth! Go her! But... where'd she get the machete from? They're just riding a donkey around town with a machete in their purse. lol.

TELL ME WHY

There are things in life that makes sense, a few random examples would be: children going to school, eating if you're hungry & bathing if you're dirty. So someone please tell me why there are just as many things that don't make sense? From what people do to the things they say or just how things work period. That is why from now on I'm going to put things that I just don't get under this label. And if you feel the need to explain or answer my mostly rhetorical & sarcastic questions then feel free. Otherwise, join me in asking these idiots what they are thinking or doing? Ugh!!!

Tell me why:

~ Do people that try to help always make the situation worse? If I asked you for help then that's a different story. But if I didn't solicit it then please don't do anything. You're more than 99% likely to screw things up & make the situation worse than it was. So, float away from me ok? Just float away.

~ Are the Heroes season 2 dvds not coming out till 8/26? We've been waiting foreverrrr & still have to. Arghh. We missed the 1st few episodes so didn't watch any of them because we wanted to see it from the beginning. So... hurry up!

~ I love Caesar salad so much even though it's probably the most fattening salad? :-(

~ My total bill for car repair and maintenance was $910? Long story. Will blog about it later.

~ It's miserable when it rains at our house? Branches fall off, leaves are everywhere & our electricity is weaker than a fat man being bribed with a steak.

~ My dog whines excessively & unnecessarily? He's so spoiled. When it rains or gets too hot outside I take him inside & put him in the crate in the den. I eventually had to move it to the open area next to the living room so he could see us & feel involved but he still whines. He stops after a while but the 1st few minutes are soooo annoying. I can't let him run about because he'll scratch the hardwood floors & jump on the furniture with his dirty self. And he'll whine when I leave the room to Actor or Q & Meatball. He'll stop after a while & start whining when I come back like "Hey you left me! and I forgot, but now you're back! Don't leave again!" And he has different whines & gets louder if we ignore him. He rolls his tongue too. lol. It's cute but annoying at the same time.

~ I have to pay $25 for my doctor to give me my medical records? And for them to fax them to my new doctor? That's some bull! Why do I have to pay you to see my own damn information?! And yesterday I asked them to fill out this form for my insurance company & they said that they would mail me the paper within 7-10 days and it'll be $15 bucks! Please! I'm standing here right now. All you have to do is check the damn boxes & sign. Takes about 15 seconds max. So why the hell do I have to wait a week AND pay $15. Most stupid thing I've ever heard in my life! Stop trying to make money any way you can. I understand if it might be time consuming if everyone asked you for records. But everyone isn't. And most of the time the staff aren't doing anything but sitting there eating & gossipping anyway. So I don't wanna hear it! DO YOUR JOB PEOPLE!

That is all for the moment.
